Lack of maintenance in these foreclosure homes can lead to significant issues. These two pictures came from foreclosed homes where the banks were unaware of water leaks in the home. The water leak coming from the water supply line for the toilet had been leaking for a long time. There was moisture 8" up the wall and there was also moisture detected in the neighboring bedroom and in the hallway. The moisture on the ceiling in the other picture came from an overflow in the pan under the air handler in the attic. There was evidence of moisture in the insulation, in the ceiling, in the wall and along the baseboards in two rooms adjacent to this location. We normally suggest that the walls and ceiling be opened up to determine the extent of the damage. Both of the buyers on these homes were recommended to follow up the home inspection with a mold inspection.
